The Perth Academy of Musical Theatre is located in the picturesque town of Perth, Ontario, Canada. Since 1998 PAMT has been offering unique workshops that focus on a wide range of theatrical skills, including singing, acting, dancing, and various aspects of technical theatre. These workshops are open to young people of all ages who want to improve these skills or who just want to have fun and experience the joy of being on stage.
Winner of the Perth Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Award in 2004, the Academy boasts a staff of several highly trained theatre professionals, and caters both to workshop participants, and our dedicated audience members who attend our final performances. Our workshops are now being held in our new studio and performance space at the Old Perth Shoe Building located at 1 Sherbrooke Street in Perth.
The primary mandate of the Academy is to provide quality arts education to youths ages 5 to 20, from our own community and beyond -- several participants have journeyed to Perth from as far away as California, New York, Winnipeg, and Mexico to attend our unique and well-reputed programs.
The Academy offers several types of programs to suit the educational needs and interests of various participants:
Musical Workshops
Our classic "musical workshops" are our most popular - these are offered consistently throughout the year. Each workshop features a particular musical show of varying styles, such as "Annie," "Grease," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," among countless others. The participants are lead through a series of instructions in acting, singing, and dance techniques (the "triple threat") by a team of highly qualified staff, and are also given hands-on experience with aspects of technical theatre, such as stage lighting, sound, props and set design, and theatre makeup. As the workshop unfolds, the participants learn the specific blocking, songs, and choreographed routines to the specific show being studied. The workshop culminates in a series of professional quality performances to what has traditionally been a sold-out theatre!
Technique Specific Workshops
We also offer a series of other unique programs, designed to hone particular skills in participants who would like to specifically develop a narrow range of technique. These workshops include our "Improvisation" teams, our "Pop Sensations" bands, and workshops being developed to enhance vocal repertoire and technique, an understanding of Shakespearian acting technique, and and appreciation of the art of clown, respectively.
